Dr. Hummell is the senior founding member of Austin Brain & Spine and has more than 20 years of experience in the surgical and non-surgical management of diseases of the brain and spine.
He completed his neurosurgical residency in San Antonio and has been practicing in Austin since 1992. He is board certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgeons and is specialty trained in instrumentation of the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine. His practice scope includes tumors of the brain and spine, degenerative spine and cerebrovascular disease.
Dr. Hummell helped found the Seton Brain & Spine Institute and is the Chief of Neurosurgery for the Seton Healthcare Family. He has served as the Chief of Neurosurgery at University Medical Center Brackenridge and is currently a member of the hospital’s Trauma Committee. He is the most experienced Austin neurosurgeon currently performing both intracranial and spinal surgery. Dr. Hummell’s professional affiliations include the Travis County Medical Society, Texas Association of Neurological Surgeons and the American Association of Neurological Surgeons.
